Newcomer Centre of Peel (NCP) offers comprehensive settlement services for newcomers, including counselling, parenting programs, and more, providing customized support to facilitate successful integration into the community.
Counselling Services
NCP’s settlement services are open to all Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees, Naturalized Canadian Citizens, Temporary Foreign Workers, International Students, Refugee Claimants/Asylum Seekers, Ontario Provincial Nominees and their dependents. Our Settlement Counsellors provide advice and referrals regarding obtaining services to assist in settling in Canada.
We prioritize confidentiality and trust, creating a safe environment and reliable relationships with our staff. When meeting with a Settlement Counsellor, newcomers can expect professional and courteous service, ensuring needs are addressed with care and respect.

Refugee Resettlement Services
Newcomer Centre of Peel is a Sponsorship Agreement Holder and can help support the sponsorship of Privately Sponsored Refugees.
We Offer Our Services In:

Individualized Counselling With Confidential Sessions for Newcomers
We understand the importance of cultural sensitivity and strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where newcomers feel understood and respected.
Additionally, we uphold strict confidentiality standards, assuring clients that their privacy is paramount and that all counselling sessions are conducted in a safe and confidential manner. By prioritizing individual needs, cultural sensitivity, and confidentiality, we aim to provide newcomers with the support and guidance they need to successfully integrate into the new community with confidence.
Counselling in Schools
The Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) program, in collaboration with the Peel District School Board and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, proudly extends NCP’s settlement services to newcomer parents and students across over 40 elementary and secondary schools in the Region of Peel. The SWIS program is designed to support newcomer families in effectively settling and integrating into the Canadian school system and their local community.
SWIS services include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting needs and assets assessments, followed by internal and external referrals to assist with housing, healthcare, job searches, and more.
- Providing information and orientation to guide newcomer families through the Canadian education system.
- Assisting newcomer families with school enrollment and understanding academic requirements.
- Developing strategies for cultural understanding and facilitating cross-cultural communication between newcomer families and school staff.
- Organizing workshops and special events in schools to address the needs of both newcomer parents and students.
- Contributing to school-initiated events and activities by providing language support, community services, and resources.
SWIS services are available in English, Arabic, Cantonese, Dari, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Pashto, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese.
Parenting Program
With funding from the United Way of Greater Toronto, the parenting program aims to empower parents with essential information and tools to nurture resilient children, fostering a stronger community. We also cater to children, youth, and seniors, vital for building healthy communities.
Service Details:
- Includes workshops, presentations and activities that promote family wellness and best parenting practices
- Sessions are held on NCP premises, in libraries and in both elementary and high schools
- Topics range from parenting and Canada such as, parent/child relationships, communicating with teenagers, fostering the love of learning healthy eating, the importance of sleep, dealing with stress, toilet training, fire safety and lots more.
